You know we love designing Midcentury Modern inspired interiors and we’ve completed projects such as Research House and Yarraville Townhouse. Melbourne’s bayside suburb of Beaumaris is synonymous with midcentury modern style homes and no two are the same, so we were thrilled to embark on the interior design journey with our clients who engaged us to conceptualise the front entrance and ground floor rumpus / secondary living room. This space was once a garage and home gym and clients described the space as lacking substance and personality. Our clients wanted to be pushed out of their comfort zone and this project is a wonderful example of when the design vision is completely embraced and trusted from day one.
Using crazy pave tiles for the entrance and lining the ceiling with timber, it created a sneak peek of what was to come stepping down in the Midcentury inspired first impression of the home. A custom framed Palm Springs photography print by John Trif adorns the newly installed timber batten wall as you enter with an accent wall sconce in black to highlight the black window frames and doors. Continuing the timber batten along the TV wall as well as mirroring this opposite, creating a cosy window nook it instantly made the room feel cosy and full of character. A custom upholstered bench cushion and hidden drawer storage in green mimicked the established bamboo greenery outside. Placing a wall sconce light at the perfect height adds to the cosiness and cocooning feel this little nook creates. Its my favourite!
We wanted quite masculine and modular furniture items in the space with a substantial silhouette so the sofa configuration is perfect, in the dreamiest shade of blue to offset the green accents. (blue and green must always be seen!) and for vintage retro presence, the Ingmar Relling Siesta chair was a no-brainer. An oversize woollen rug from Hali Rugs warms up the freshly laid European oak flooring and highlights the warm straw tones of the linen blend sheers. Our client dreamt of a wall of sheers to really soften the space, which they do beautifully and come with the practically of splitting them for easy indoor outdoor access to the expansive backyard. The Custom joinery for the entertainment and window nook seat was kept simple and minimalistic with finger pull hidden drawers in a mossy green tone to mirror the green aspect.
Just Amazing!!! Jess made it all happen from the concept design to reality and the team was always a phone call away. Highly recommend. I wouldn’t start a reno without seeing her first. So happy with the end result.
