This Art Deco apartment in Brighton underwent a considered internal renovation, designed to enhance natural light, improve spatial functionality and respect the building’s original character. Working within a compact footprint, the project focused on reconfiguring the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, alongside a refined material palette that introduces subtle colour while maintaining a cohesive, timeless feel.

A soft palette of powdered blues was introduced alongside natural materials, including Italian terrazzo flooring in the kitchen, referencing the building’s original Deco detailing. Throughout the apartment, material selections were carefully considered to create continuity, resulting in a cohesive and layered interior.

In this project, the internal layout was refined to maximise usable space and natural light. The laundry was relocated from the bathroom and discreetly integrated into the hallway behind original cupboard doors, freeing up valuable space and improving overall flow.
Timber floors were stained in a deeper tone, paired with a soft, natural paint palette to create a calm and grounded interior. The existing fireplace was updated with a traditional wood burner and terrazzo hearth, tying back to the kitchen finishes and reinforcing a consistent material language throughout the home.
The kitchen was reconfigured to improve circulation, storage and usability within a compact footprint. The entry door was relocated and mirrored from its original position, allowing for increased bench space and a more functional layout.
Custom joinery in a soft powdered blue with panel detailing was paired with porcelain benchtops and open timber shelving. Integrated appliances, including a concealed dishwasher, were incorporated to maintain clean lines and maximise efficiency.
