Heritage Elwood Apartment

A considered heritage apartment renovation in Elwood, this project focused on delivering a cohesive, Cotswold-inspired interior across the entire home. Designed for clients based overseas, the scope required clear documentation, thoughtful spatial planning and a layered material palette balancing lightness with depth. The result is a warm, functional and character-filled interior grounded in natural materials, custom joinery and period detailing. Due to project timing, professional photography was not undertaken. The following images capture a selection of in-progress and completed moments, highlighting the design direction and key details across the home.

This heritage apartment renovation in Melbourne’s bayside suburb of Elwood was designed for clients based overseas, requiring a highly considered and collaborative design process from concept through to construction documentation and material specification. Working within the constraints of a compact apartment footprint, Eclectic Creative focused on creating a warm, cohesive and highly functional interior that respected the home’s original character while introducing greater practicality for modern living.

Inspired by the relaxed charm of Cotswold interiors, the design direction balanced softness and warmth with timeless detailing and architectural restraint. The material palette combined natural stone, textured finishes, muted green joinery, aged brass accents and layered upholstery to create a home that felt calm, inviting and connected throughout. Existing heritage details were carefully retained and enhanced, allowing the apartment’s original personality to remain central to the renovation.

Spatial planning played a significant role in improving the functionality of the home. The kitchen was thoughtfully reconfigured with custom joinery and integrated storage solutions designed to maximise usability without overwhelming the apartment’s scale. A custom banquette seating arrangement introduced both practicality and softness, while detailed joinery elements and refined material transitions helped create a stronger sense of cohesion between rooms.

The bathroom renovation focused on balancing character and durability through carefully selected fixtures, tiling and bespoke detailing. Throughout the apartment, attention was given to ensuring each finish and design decision felt connected to the overall architectural language of the home rather than appearing overly new or disconnected from its heritage context.

Due to the clients residing overseas during the renovation process, clear communication, detailed documentation and thoughtful specification schedules formed an essential part of the project. Design intent drawings, elevations and material palettes were carefully prepared to support builder coordination and ensure consistency throughout the execution phase.

While professional photography was not undertaken due to project timing, the project captures Eclectic Creative’s approach to heritage apartment renovations: thoughtful spatial planning, layered interiors, custom joinery and carefully resolved detailing designed to balance period character with contemporary living.
