Beacon Lighting: Blogger Event + Designer Collection

This blog was produced in partnership with Beacon Lighting.

I was thrilled to be invited to the The Beacon Blogger event hosted by Beacon’s brand ambassador Jenna from The Block to have a sneak peek into their new designer collection and talk amongst fellow creatives, stylists and bloggers about the importance of lighting in the home.  We discussed how choosing the right lamps and lighting options can influence the entire interior design of your home and evoke particular moods.

Beacon Lighting is proudly Australian owned (which I love), with over 100 stores across the country and has been offering lighting solutions since the 60’s. The Beacon team work hard on providing the very latest styles, trends and innovations through traveling the world in search for inspiration attending the Milan Fair, Maison & Objet and the Hong Kong Lighting Fair, just to name a few.

One major insight gathered from the event was that planning lighting schemes and specifying the lamps and pendants was often placed secondary (or god forbid last minute) in the design stage, when in actual fact it should be considered in the very early stages of building, renovating, decorating and designing. This is because lighting plays such a huge role in how we feel in our house, and can dramatically change our moods and impact the overall aesthetic of our space.

Lighting is a really important and inspiring element of my work as a Designer and Stylist as it’s something thats easily changeable – you can switch out your light fittings just like your cushions, to give your space a much needed refresh and brand new look. With an affordable range offering looks from Hampton’s to Scandi and Timeless and Urban, Beacon Lighting makes it easy to update the look and the feel of your space. I also always tell my clients to work with more floor and table lamps, and less with downlighting and overhead lighting in their homes. To me, a home should feel cosy, comforting and as Jenna said, “like a big warm hug.”

I think there is something to be said when you enter a home and the lighting is executed and designed right – you just feel good, you’re put at ease and the lighting cocoons you or places features on all the right spots in the home such as artwork or architectural features. Lighting is such a powerful tool, that unfortunately tends to be put on the back burner, so it was amazing to reenergise the conversation at the Beacon Blogger event and chat about our favourite styles, how we use light and what inspires us.

“Lighting plays such a huge role in how we feel in our house, and can dramatically change our moods and impact the overall aesthetic of our space.”

My favourite picks from the Designer Collection is the Timeless Range – full of detail in the distinctive brass finishes mixed with marble, matte black, timber and glass – seriously, all the goodies! My particular interior style is what you would consider eclectic, I love to mix the old with the new, vintage finds with the more contemporary and leaning on the more masculine side.

So this Timeless range with it’s Mid-Century appeal really speaks to me and I love the Cheswick table lamp, pictured below in my own home, its ultra versatile, style this baby anywhere, like your bedside, desktop or console. I love the sturdy heavy marble base with the matte black and brass detailing, it has married perfectly with my existing pieces and style in my home.

The new Designer Collection catalogue is available in store and online until 2nd April.
